I have been invited to represent the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in London next week at the International Paralympic Committee’s Inclusion Summit, a gathering of senior leaders from government, industry and the nonprofit world that will discuss inclusion and accessibility, what this means to society, and what the Paralympic Games represent as a catalyst for societal change for people with a physical impairment. This event, part of the largest Paralympics ever held, is a perfect opportunity for me to learn from and network with some of the world’s foremost experts on implementing programs promoting positive societal change for people with disabilities.

I was extended the invitation to participate in the Summit by Motivation UK, the organization that designed and built all the basketball wheelchairs the players are using in Afghanistan. Motivation just finished a terrific video montage of moments from the Afghanistan National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament, held in June. The film is a combination of footage captured by David Constantine, co-founder of Motivation, and Michael Glowacki, director of The League of Afghanistan, and will be used to promote Motivation’s chairs at the Paralympics. It does a great job capturing the energy, enthusiasm and joy of the tournament – excellent work by the Motivation team. You can watch the video here: http://youtu.be/z_a6FxmgsvQ

David Constantine also recently sent a batch of outstanding photos he took while observing practices and games in June. Below are a few of my favorites.

Stay tuned for more updates!
